FINISH ELEME–ONNE ROAD BY DECEMBER 15 OR FACE SANCTIONS, UMAHI WARNS
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed contractors handling the Eleme–Onne section of the East-West Road in Rivers State to finish the project by December 15 or face sanctions.
Umahi, who inspected the site, expressed displeasure over the slow progress and warned that the federal government would not grant any extension beyond the set deadline.
“The pace of the work is totally unacceptable,” he said. “Let me make it clear to the contractor: this project will not be reviewed by even a Kobo. There will be no price variations or additional claims on it. You blame the rain, yet many aspects of this work could still continue despite the weather. For instance, we have observed multiple failures on the Port Harcourt-bound carriageway.”
Regretting the delays, the minister instructed the area controller to issue another warning letter to the contractor.
