A fire outbreak has gutted parts of a restaurant and a residential building in Awka, causing significant damage to property but no reported casualties.

According to the Anambra State Fire Service, the incident occurred around midnight at a popular facility known as Restaurants House behind Old English, Agu-Awka. The fire reportedly started from a corner of the building before spreading to the roof.

Firefighters were quickly deployed following a distress call received at about 12:45 am, and they managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to nearby structures.

Eyewitnesses said the fire had already caused extensive damage to furniture, equipment, and parts of the building before emergency responders arrived.

The fire service confirmed that the cause of the incident is still unknown, though investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident in Awka, another fire outbreak occurred at a residential building in Ngozika Estate, where roofing, furniture, and parts of the structure were also destroyed.

Authorities said no injuries or deaths were recorded in both incidents, while urging residents to observe fire safety precautions and report emergencies promptly.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
