An early-morning fire has destroyed nine locked-up shops at the Nigerian Railway shopping complex along the Aleshinloye Market axis of Ibadan, Oyo State, leaving traders with losses estimated at millions of naira.

The fire reportedly broke out in the early hours of the day, destroying goods and property stored in the affected shops. Traders were left counting their losses as the extent of the damage became apparent.

One of the affected traders reportedly lost goods and other valuables worth about N21 million in the incident. The cause of the fire was not immediately established.

The incident has raised concerns among traders over fire safety and the need for improved measures to prevent similar occurrences in the market area.
