FIRS EXTENDS OFFICE HOURS TO WEEKENDS IN JUNE TO HELP COMPANIES MEET TAX DEADLINE
The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has directed all tax offices across the country to operate on weekends throughout the month of June.
This move, according to a statement from Mr Adedeji’s media adviser, Dare Adekanmbi, is in line with the agency’s customer-focused approach and is aimed at helping companies meet their tax filing deadlines.
With this new directive, tax offices will now open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays until Sunday, June 29.
June is a crucial month for tax filing, especially for companies whose financial year ends on December 31. These companies are required by law to file their Companies Income Tax (CIT) returns on or before June 30.
The FIRS has informed all its zonal and local tax offices of the new schedule through the coordinating directors of the Large Taxpayers Group, Government and Medium Taxpayers Group, and the Emerging Taxpayers Group.
Since taking office, Mr Adedeji has been working to improve the ease of tax payment and transform FIRS from just a tax-collecting body to a more service-oriented agency.
