The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has extended its operational hours to include weekends in a bid to boost revenue collection and meet its 2025 target of N25.2 trillion.

FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, issued the directive as part of efforts to align the agency’s customer-focused strategy with practical measures.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, tax offices across the country will now open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays throughout June.

The extension is aimed at accommodating the rise in company income tax filings, which typically surge ahead of the June 30 deadline, as many firms wrap up their financial year on December 31.

“To facilitate taxpayer compliance, improve service delivery, and optimize revenue generation during this crucial period, the management has approved weekend operations for all tax offices in June 2025,” the statement read.

FIRS recorded N21.6 trillion in revenue collection for 2024 and is intensifying efforts to meet its ambitious target for the current year. This move also comes against the backdrop of Nigeria’s N54.99 trillion national budget for 2025.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
