FIRST LADY BEGINS ANAMBRA VISIT WITH PROJECTS, EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVES

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Thursday arrived in Anambra State for a one-day working visit focused on the commissioning of development projects and the rollout of empowerment programmes for vulnerable residents across the state.

Tinubu arrived at the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri at about 11:31am, where she was welcomed with traditional dances and cheers from political supporters. She was received by Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim and his wife, as well as members of the state House of Assembly and other government officials.

Ahead of her arrival at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, where some of the activities were scheduled to take place, about 500 security operatives were deployed to secure the venue. Security personnel were positioned at different entry points, while residents and other invited guests gathered at the arena. Empowerment items, including sewing machines, refrigerators and cooking gas cylinders, were also displayed at the venue.

Government officials, including the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, inspected the venue to confirm that preparations were completed ahead of the First Lady’s programme. The visit is expected to include the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East zone, with Anambra serving as the host state for the initiative.

As part of the activities, Tinubu is also expected to flag off a statewide empowerment programme targeting more than 5,000 widows and other less privileged residents. She will further commission the TETFund-sponsored ICT Experience Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative aimed at supporting access to technology and skills development.
