First Bank of Nigeria has partnered with Visa to launch a new Naira-denominated Visa Debit Card aimed at expanding cashless payment options in Nigeria.

The new card is designed to allow customers to make payments in naira both locally and internationally where Visa is accepted, while supporting Nigeria’s broader push toward a cashless economy.

According to the bank, the product is intended to improve convenience for customers by reducing reliance on cash and enabling faster digital transactions across retail stores, online platforms, and point-of-sale terminals.

The launch also aligns with ongoing efforts by financial institutions and regulators in Nigeria to encourage electronic payments and reduce the volume of physical cash in circulation.

Customers using the Naira Visa Debit Card will be able to access services such as online shopping, bill payments, and ATM withdrawals, depending on network availability and account settings.

Bank officials said the partnership reflects a growing demand for secure and flexible payment solutions as more Nigerians adopt digital banking channels for everyday transactions.

Visa noted that the collaboration is part of its continued investment in Nigeria’s financial ecosystem, particularly in expanding access to digital payment infrastructure for individuals and businesses.

The introduction of the card comes as Nigeria’s banking sector continues to roll out innovations aimed at improving payment speed, security, and financial inclusion.

Further details on eligibility and rollout timelines were not immediately disclosed at the time of the announcement.
