FOREIGN AIRLINES, COMPANIES OWE NAMA OVER N67BN

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has disclosed that foreign airlines and related companies operating in Nigeria owe the agency over N67 billion in unpaid aeronautical charges.

NAMA Managing Director, Captain Adebayo Sarumi, revealed the figure during a stakeholders’ meeting, expressing concern over the mounting debt and its impact on the agency’s operations and infrastructure maintenance. “We cannot continue to provide services without corresponding revenue. These debts are unsustainable,” Sarumi stated.

The agency has initiated recovery processes, including engagement with foreign embassies and international aviation bodies. NAMA warned that continued default could lead to stricter enforcement measures, including potential restrictions on defaulting operators.

The revelation has sparked discussions on the need for improved payment systems and stricter compliance by international carriers.

Aviation stakeholders have called for dialogue to resolve the issue amicably while ensuring the sustainability of Nigeria’s airspace management.
