FORMER OSUN SENATOR LEAVES PDP.
The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 01, Iragbiji, Osun State, announced on Monday that Felix Ogunwale, who served as the lawmaker for Osun Central Senatorial District in the Senate between 2003 and 2007, has resigned from the party.
Ogunwale had earlier stepped down from his position as chairman of the Governing Council of the Osun State Health Technology, Ilesa, sparking speculation about his strained relationship with Governor Ademola Adeleke.
During the special ward congress held in Iragbiji, PDP chairperson for Ward 01, Taibat Oladimeji, expressed that Ogunwale’s departure was a relief, highlighting that he had not been involved in party activities for almost a year.
Oladimeji, speaking through Abayomi Adegoke, emphasized that the Ward Executives would remain loyal to the PDP and the Adeleke administration, reaffirming their commitment to the party despite Ogunwale's exit.
“The congress was convened in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution of our great party, PDP at the instance of the Party Leaders, Ward Executives and Members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 01, Boripe Local Government, Iragbiji, Osun State, to discuss the State of the Party (PDP) in our Ward, following the membership resignation of a former leader of the party in our ward, Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale (Jumokol).
“The Congress had in attendance party members, leaders and stakeholders from our Ward (Ward 01) which has the largest Voter Register in Boripe Local Government, as well as observers.
“The special ward congress affirmed that the exit of Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale (Jumokol) from the party (PDP) was a relief for us at the ward and Local Government level because he has not participated in any party activities for about a year and we have filled the gap long before now. And the congress resolved to use this medium to intimate the leadership of our party at the State and National level with this position.
“That all of us, the Ward leaders, the Party Executives and members, remained faithful, steadfast, undeterred and resolute to uphold our party, keep the flag flying and give victory to our party (PDP) in all future elections. The Congress passed a vote of confidence on our Governor, His Excellency, Senator Jackson Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke and commended Mr Governor for his sterling performance in all sectors,” Oladimeji said.
She praised Governor Adeleke’s numerous initiatives, particularly the projects being carried out in Boripe Local Government Area and other parts of the state. She credited the state party leadership’s support for the governor as a key factor in fostering a harmonious relationship between the ruling party and the state government.
She also assured Adeleke of the unwavering loyalty of PDP members in Ogunwale’s ward, vowing to continue supporting him in future elections.
In his resignation letter addressed to Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, and Governor Adeleke, which was shared by the leadership of Ward 01, Ogunwale stated that his decision to leave the party was driven by a desire for personal growth and a genuine commitment to the welfare of his people.
Attempts to contact Ogunwale via phone and text for comment on the matter have been unsuccessful at the time of this report.
