FORMER OYO PDP CHAIRMAN ENDORSES MAKINDE FOR 2027 PRESIDENTIAL RUN
A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Kunmi Mustapha, has declared support for Governor Seyi Makinde's potential presidential bid in 2027.
Mustapha expressed his endorsement in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, as part of celebrations marking Makinde’s sixth year in office. He praised the governor’s courage, vision, and leadership, describing him as a strong contender for Nigeria’s top political office.
“Despite the current challenges within the main opposition party, the PDP remains capable of reclaiming power at the federal level by 2027,” Mustapha said. “Governor Makinde’s remarkable achievements in Oyo State and his broader contributions to national development make him a standout candidate.”
He called on Nigerians to support genuine leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people, rather than those who perpetuate hardship.
“Governor Makinde has consistently demonstrated rare leadership qualities and fearlessness,” Mustapha said. “Since the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, no other Yoruba politician has shown such a deep commitment to grassroots development and mass welfare.”
He highlighted the governor’s accomplishments in key sectors such as urban renewal, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, workers’ welfare, employment generation, and support for the elderly and vulnerable populations since assuming office in 2019.
Mustapha, who currently serves as Governor Makinde’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, reaffirmed his loyalty and that of Makinde’s supporters. “Rain or shine, we remain committed to him. It is time for him to begin preparations for 2027,” he stated.
He also commended the efforts of PDP leaders, including Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and BoT member Chief Bode George, for their continued work in uniting the party ahead of future elections.
