Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabiru Marafa, has officially announced his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of betrayal and deep internal division.

In a video message delivered in Hausa to his supporters, Marafa explained that his decision followed two days of consultations with stakeholders and party loyalists across Zamfara and beyond.

According to him, the APC has failed to unite its members both at the state and national levels, with Zamfara bearing the brunt of the crisis.

“APC as a party has betrayed and cheated us in Zamfara state and Nigeria,” Marafa declared.

He highlighted the unresolved factional rift between Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and former Zamfara Governor, now Defence Minister, Bello Matawalle, as a major source of instability.

“The betrayal is at its highest peak because since Bala Buni took over the party from Matawalle, they have not held a single meeting up till this moment. The party has been divided into two parts: one for Buni and the other for Matawalle. For over two years now, nothing has been done to resolve it,” he added.

Marafa said the lack of leadership and unity had made it impossible for him to remain in the party.

“So, because of these, I have decided to quit the APC, and I will continue my consultation to see if, in no distant time, I will announce my new party.”

His departure adds to growing concerns over APC’s cohesion in Zamfara, a state that has been a political hotspot in recent years.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
