Nigerian business magnate Pascal Dozie, founder of the now-defunct Diamond Bank and former Chairman of MTN Nigeria, has died at 84.

Family sources report that he passed away after a brief illness, leaving a significant impact on Nigeria's financial and telecommunications sectors.

Born on April 9, 1939, Dozie was raised in a Catholic household. He began his education at Our Lady’s School in Emekuku, then attended Holy Ghost Juniorate Seminary and Holy Ghost College in Owerri, where he completed his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

To pursue higher education, he moved to the UK, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics. He continued his studies in Operational Research and Industrial Engineering before earning a Master’s degree in Administrative Science from City University in London.

Dozie was instrumental in Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications sectors, founding Diamond Bank, which later merged with Access Bank, and serving as chairman of MTN Nigeria, where he oversaw its expansion. His significant contributions to the nation’s economic development earned him great respect. He is survived by his wife, Chinyere, and their five children.
