FOUR DIE AS RAINSTORM WREAKS HAVOC IN SOKOTO

At least four people have lost their lives and several others injured following a destructive rainstorm that swept through parts of Sokoto State, causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.

The heavy downpour, accompanied by strong winds, occurred on Sunday night, uprooting trees, ripping off rooftops, and flooding several communities. Rescue teams and local authorities have been deployed to affected areas to provide relief and assess the extent of destruction.

The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed the casualties and urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant. “We are working with relevant agencies to support those who lost their homes and property,” a SEMA official said.

Many residents have called for urgent government intervention, including improved drainage systems and early warning mechanisms to mitigate future disasters.

The rainstorm is the latest in a series of weather-related incidents across northern Nigeria this rainy season, highlighting the need for better climate resilience strategies.
