FOUR POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED FOR EXTORTING ICPC CHAIRMAN IN ABUJA

In a major crackdown on corruption within the force, Nigerian Police authorities have arrested four officers accused of extorting N53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The incident, which occurred in Abuja, has sparked outrage as it involves senior anti-corruption officials being targeted by those sworn to uphold the law. According to preliminary reports, the officers allegedly stopped the ICPC chairman’s vehicle and demanded the sum under the guise of routine checks before forcibly collecting the money.

Police spokesperson confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. “This act undermines public trust and the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force. We will not tolerate any form of extortion,” the statement read.

The ICPC Chairman is said to have promptly reported the matter, leading to swift action. Investigations are ongoing to determine if the officers acted alone or as part of a larger syndicate.
