FROM OPPOSITION TO ALLIANCE: WIKE HAILS OKOWA’S POLITICAL SHIFT
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu for the sake of national development and unity. His appeal follows the public endorsement of the President by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, former Delta State Governor and 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking through a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described Okowa’s support as a bold and commendable step that reflects growing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and policies.
According to Wike, the decision by Okowa and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to align with the President is rooted in their recognition of the administration’s commitment to good governance and national progress.
“I commend Dr. Okowa and Governor Oborevwori for standing up at the right time. Their actions show maturity and foresight, and I believe they are motivated by the President’s dedication to a united and prosperous Nigeria,” Wike said.
He emphasized that Okowa’s support, despite being the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election, is a powerful symbol of placing national interest above partisan considerations.
Wike further encouraged other political figures and citizens who remain undecided to follow Okowa’s example and throw their support behind President Tinubu.
“This is not the time to sit on the fence. By showing support now, Nigerians—especially those from the Niger Delta—can position themselves to benefit more from the Federal Government’s developmental plans,” he stated.
Reflecting on the broader political shift, Wike noted, “What I saw and acted upon in 2023, others are now beginning to understand. More people are joining the Renewed Hope train, and that’s a positive sign for our democracy.”
As Nigeria continues to navigate its path toward unity and growth, Wike expressed optimism that recent realignments among political leaders will foster stronger collaboration and inclusive progress for all regions.
