The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has arrested 16 drivers for overspeeding along the Sagamu–Abeokuta Expressway.

The motorists were apprehended on Tuesday during a special intervention patrol led by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, alongside the Head of Operations.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, the operation was described as part of ongoing efforts to achieve the FRSC’s 2025 Corporate Strategic Goal, which aims to reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries by 10 per cent.

Odunsi-Oyewole identified overspeeding as a leading cause of road crashes in the state, noting that a laser radar gun was deployed during the patrol to detect violations. He added that speed-limiting devices were also installed in the vehicles of the offending drivers.

According to him, the special patrol covered the Sagamu–Abeokuta corridor, with 16 drivers booked for overspeeding offences.

The Sector Commander warned motorists against the dangers of overspeeding and overloading, stressing the importance of safe driving practices.

He further assured the public that the special intervention patrol would continue throughout the yuletide period, reaffirming the command’s commitment to ensuring safety on the roads.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
