FUBARA SAYS IBAS LEFT N600BN IN RIVERS STATE TREASURY

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has confirmed that over N600 billion was in the state treasury when he returned from a six-month suspension.

This aligns with an earlier statement by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, who noted that the former Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, left more than N600 billion in the state account at the end of the emergency rule.

Governor Fubara disclosed this on Wednesday during the commissioning of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi road and bridge project in Ahoada East. He added that he had left more than N300 billion in the state account prior to his suspension.

Fubara promised that within the next six months, Rivers residents will receive a full account of how public funds are being spent.

He said, “When we left during the emergency rule, our records showed over N300 billion, and upon our return, we found about N600 billion. Every penny spent is documented, and evidence will be presented in the coming six months.

“There is no issue with our handling of the funds, and no one can question my integrity. I am not associated with any fraudulent activity, and that is something I take pride in.”

The governor reassured citizens that state resources are being managed responsibly.

“So, your money and the records of its use are intact. We are executing strong projects. Perhaps some believe otherwise because we avoid flagging off projects unnecessarily. We prefer to commission them when complete to save costs and ensure transparency.”

He explained that the Obodhi–Ozochi road project was initiated by the previous administration following a request by Edison Ehie, and promised to extend the road further.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
