FUEL PRICES DROP AS FILLING STATIONS COMPETE WITH NNPCL

Good news for motorists in Abuja and across Nigeria—fuel prices are dropping again as filling stations move to compete with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other major outlets.

Checks on Wednesday showed that several stations, including AA Rano, Ranoil, Mobil, and NIPCO, have reduced their pump price to ₦890 per litre, down from ₦945. This matches the new NNPCL retail price in Abuja.

Others, such as Empire Energy, Emadab, and Total stations in Gwarimpa, Abuja, have also cut their prices to between ₦899 and ₦910 per litre, from their previous range of ₦935 to ₦945.

Explaining the drop, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, said it was mainly due to lower ex-depot and crude oil prices.

“It is due to a drop in the petrol ex-depot price, which now stands between ₦820 and ₦845 per litre, and also a reduction in crude oil prices,” Maigandi explained.

Earlier, NNPCL had slashed its prices to ₦890 in Abuja and ₦865 in Lagos, following Dangote Refinery’s adjustment of its ex-depot price to ₦820.

Meanwhile, global crude oil prices also played a role in the adjustment. As of Wednesday morning, Brent crude traded at $66.52 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) sold for $63 per barrel, according to oilprice.com.

With competition heating up among marketers, Nigerians may continue to see slight price adjustments in the coming days. For now, drivers and businesses are getting some relief at the pumps.
