FUEL SCARCITY HITS ABUJA AS DANGOTE REFINERY DELAYS SUPPLY ROLLOUT
Several filling stations in Abuja have remained shut for more than four days due to delays in the distribution of fuel from the Dangote Refinery.
Retail outlets including MRS and Conoil confirmed on Monday that their tanks have been dry since last week, leaving motorists stranded and sparking fresh concerns about fuel scarcity.
A station manager, who spoke anonymously, explained that supply from the refinery was expected to start moving on Tuesday, meaning products may reach outlets by midweek.
Dangote Group had earlier suspended self-collection gantry sales of petrol, fixed at N820 per litre, but has now announced that sales will resume on Tuesday.
Industry players, however, warn that the refinery may struggle to handle both production and distribution alone. Billy Gillis-Harry, President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, stressed that Dangote must work with marketers to ensure efficiency, warning that Nigerians could face disruptions if one company tries to dominate the downstream sector.
Fuel prices currently range between N865 and N920 per litre in Abuja and Lagos.
