FURY SAYS ITAUMA WOULD CRUSH USYK, JOSHUA, AND OTHER TOP FIGHTERS
Tyson Fury has boldly declared that rising heavyweight star Moses Itauma would defeat Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua, and other top-tier fighters if they were to face off today, emphasizing that boxing favors the youth and Itauma has time on his side.
Fury’s remarks followed Itauma’s swift destruction of Dillian Whyte in just two minutes, a performance that sparked calls for a potential matchup with current heavyweight titleholders.
Taking to social media, Fury shared his candid opinion, stating that Itauma would “wreck” Usyk, Joshua, and what he described as “all the big names of the past.”
“I keep getting asked about Moses Itauma facing Usyk and other major names. My opinion isn’t just from someone on the sidelines — I’ve won every belt, achieved everything in boxing, and I know what I’m talking about,” Fury said.
“Boxing is a young man’s game. I said it to Wladimir Klitschko when he was 37, and I’ll say it again. Time doesn’t wait. Moses Itauma will clean out all those aging fighters in the division — Usyk, AJ, Jarrell Miller, Zhang, Luis Ortiz — they’re all spent. Even Usyk, who holds the belts that were taken from me, wouldn’t stand a chance against Moses. It’s youth versus experience, and youth wins.”
Social media users were quick to note that Fury left his own name out of the mix. He responded humorously, “I’ve been retired eight months, I’m an old man too. I’m 37, not 25!”
Fury has also hailed Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) as “the future of boxing,” a title he previously bestowed upon Jared Anderson — before Anderson, then 24, was stopped by 32-year-old Martin Bakole.
Despite the pointed tone of his comments, Fury’s sentiment doesn’t appear to be entirely bitter, even in light of his back-to-back losses to Usyk. At 38, Usyk remains dominant, having recently knocked out 27-year-old Daniel Dubois in a commanding performance.
Nevertheless, Itauma continues to generate excitement within the boxing community. As promoter Frank Warren has emphasized, it’s not just Itauma’s undefeated record — it’s how decisively he wins. His talent is evident and promising.
Meanwhile, Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs), known as the “Gypsy King,” insists that his latest retirement — the fifth in his career — is final. However, following recent headlines hinting at a potential third bout against Usyk next April at Wembley, many believe another comeback could still be on the cards.
