GALATASARAY CONFIDENT IN HISTORIC MOVE TO SIGN VICTOR OSIMHEN DESPITE PREMIER LEAGUE INTEREST
Turkish champions Galatasaray are pushing hard to complete what could be one of the boldest transfers in their club’s history—a permanent deal for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, according to ESSENTIAL Sports Extra.
Despite mounting interest from top Premier League sides including Liverpool and Manchester United, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg says Galatasaray remain optimistic. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Plettenberg revealed:
“Galatasaray remain optimistic about securing the permanent signing of Victor Osimhen, despite top English clubs having re-entered the race over the past three to four days.”
Osimhen, who prefers a move to England, is now a top summer target for several elite English clubs. Liverpool and United are reported to have already held internal meetings to explore the possibility of landing the Nigerian forward.
But Galatasaray are not giving up. The Turkish club has reportedly offered Osimhen a lucrative contract worth €15–20 million per year (net) — a figure that could match or even surpass what some Premier League teams are ready to pay.
However, the major challenge is not the salary, but how the €75 million release clause will be paid. Napoli, Osimhen’s parent club, are demanding that the fewest possible instalments be used in triggering the clause.
“Gala are offering a net annual salary of €15–20m. The biggest issue remains the payment structure for the €75m release clause. Napoli want as few instalments as possible,” Plettenberg added.
While Galatasaray are financially capable of meeting the clause, they are hoping to negotiate more flexible terms, ideally spreading the payment over multiple transfer windows.
Osimhen had an exceptional loan spell at Galatasaray last season, scoring 37 goals and providing eight assists in just 41 matches across all competitions. The performance has made him a fan favourite and a top priority for the club to retain permanently.
This comes after a falling out with Napoli’s leadership saw Osimhen frozen out under new manager Antonio Conte. The 2022/23 Serie A top scorer — with 26 goals in 32 games during Napoli’s title-winning campaign — has been widely expected to move on permanently this summer.
Galatasaray are confident that if they can reach an agreement with Napoli over the payment terms, they can beat English clubs to his signature and make a historic statement in European football.
