Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Igbo Community Association (ICA) in the Federal Capital Territory have called on Igbos resident in Abuja to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) without delay.

The groups made the appeal during a joint meeting with Igbo leaders and residents in the capital city, stressing the importance of participating fully in the 2027 general elections.

They warned that failing to collect PVCs would amount to self-exclusion from the political process. “Your vote is your power. If you do not have your PVC, you cannot complain about marginalisation or bad governance,” a leader said.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the ICA expressed concern that many Igbos in Abuja, especially traders, professionals, and young people, have not yet collected their voter cards. They urged them to visit INEC offices in their area councils immediately to register or collect their cards before the deadline.

The groups also encouraged Igbos to take active interest in the electoral process by getting involved in political parties of their choice and voting for credible candidates, irrespective of ethnicity or religion.

They reminded residents that political participation is key to protecting Igbo interests and contributing to national development. “Abuja is our home too. We must not sit on the fence,” one speaker emphasised.

Many Igbos in the FCT welcomed the call, noting that low voter registration and collection of PVCs have weakened their political influence in previous elections. Some pledged to mobilise family members and friends to act on the message.

With less than a year to the next general elections, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the ICA say they will continue to sensitise Igbos across the country on the need for active political participation and proper documentation.

Residents in Abuja who are yet to collect their PVCs have been advised to do so quickly to avoid last-minute rush and disappointment.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
