Global Citizen’s Move Afrika initiative made a significant impact in Lagos, highlighting a transformative moment for Africa’s creative economy. As the first pan-African touring circuit featuring international artists, Move Afrika goes beyond celebrating music—it serves as a driving force for sustainable economic investment and job creation across the continent.
The tour’s historic stop in Lagos attracted an influential audience, including industry leaders, senior government officials, philanthropists, and key figures from the creative sector. Notable attendees included Hugh Evans, Co-Founder and CEO of Global Citizen, along with members of the Global Citizen Africa Board, such as Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Coronation Group and Access Holdings, and Tunde Folawiyo, Chair of the Global Citizen Africa Board and Chairman of Coronation Merchant Bank.
The electrifying event at The Palms, Lekki, featured a stellar performance by award-winning artist John Legend, who paid tribute to Nigeria’s fashion industry by wearing outfits designed by local talents. Nigerian superstar Simi also delivered an outstanding performance, alongside DJ Consequence, ensuring an unforgettable evening that seamlessly blended global excellence with African creativity.
Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to initiatives that generate real economic opportunities. He emphasized that Move Afrika aligns perfectly with Lagos’ vision, noting the significance of hosting a global icon like John Legend, whose music and activism resonate deeply.
“His presence here today is a reminder that art and activism are deeply connected. This gathering aims to inspire us all to be active global citizens—raising our voices and taking action to ensure that economic opportunities reach every community,” he stated.
