Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has rewarded two exceptional graduates of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with ₦10 million each for achieving a perfect 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
The recipients, Samuel Badekale and Haroun Adebakin, emerged as the best-graduating students at UNILAG’s 55th convocation ceremony.
Abiodun hosted the duo at his Abeokuta office on Friday, where he also appointed them as Ogun State’s Education Ambassadors, a role designed to inspire and mentor younger students.
“I commend you for bringing honour to yourselves, your families, Ogun State, and Nigeria. Achieving a 5.0 CGPA is an extraordinary feat. This token of appreciation is not just for you, but also for your parents, who have raised you to be exceptional individuals.”
Encouraging Academic Excellence
The governor urged the scholars to give back by mentoring students and participating in educational programmes across the state.
“We are appointing you as our Education Ambassadors to motivate and inspire others. You will have the opportunity to visit schools, share your experiences, and encourage younger students to strive for excellence.”
Abiodun also praised their dedication, perseverance, and discipline, emphasizing that their success reflects the “Ogun spirit” of excellence.
“Despite societal challenges, you remained focused and diligent. Your achievement proves that hard work and consistency yield great rewards.”
Ogun State’s Educational Reforms
The governor highlighted his administration’s ongoing reforms in the education sector, including the introduction of the Learner Identification Number (LIN) system, which tracks student enrolment and performance.
He noted that the initiative had gained national recognition, positioning Ogun as a model for educational innovation in Nigeria.
Graduates Express Gratitude
In response, Adebakin and Badekale expressed their appreciation for the recognition and financial reward.
“This gesture is proof of your commitment to education, and we are deeply grateful,” they said.
They also encouraged young Nigerians to stay committed to their studies and avoid distractions that could hinder their future success.
With this reward, Ogun State continues to set the pace in honouring academic excellence, reinforcing the importance of education as a foundation for national development.
