GOVERNOR ADELEKE ORDERS IMMEDIATE REVIEW OF ROAD PROJECT AFTER RESIDENTS PROTEST POOR WORKMANSHIP IN ADURAMIGBA
Osun State, Nigeria — Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for a thorough review of the 4.76-kilometre road construction in Aduramigba community, Ido-Osun, following public protests over the allegedly poor quality of the work.
The peaceful demonstration on Friday saw community members expressing their frustration with the contractor’s work, holding placards with messages like “We say no to no drainage and stone base road” and “Don’t cause quick pain for six communities.” The protesters raised concerns about the lack of proper drainage and substandard road surfacing.
Sunday Ogundele, the community chairman, criticized the construction, revealing that recent rainfall had already caused damage to some parts of the newly laid asphalt. “They started tarring on Sunday and Monday, but by Thursday, the rain had washed away sections of the road,” Ogundele explained.
Reacting to the protests, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed on Saturday that a team from the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Works, and the O-RAMP Project was dispatched to assess the situation. The officials were tasked with engaging the community and implementing the governor’s order for an urgent review and necessary repairs.
“The governor has directed an immediate assessment of the roadworks, followed by remedial action to meet proper standards,” Rasheed said. He added that the government is also attentive to other urgent community needs.
The team is currently consulting with contractors and project managers to compile reports that will guide the corrective steps. They are expected to submit their findings by Monday, after which further decisions will be taken.
This action highlights Governor Adeleke’s dedication to ensuring quality infrastructure and addressing the concerns of Osun communities.
