GOVERNOR FUBARA: MY PRINCIPAL AND I ARE NOW WORKING TOGETHER
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has declared that his political rift with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is now over.
Speaking to State House correspondents shortly after visiting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Fubara confirmed that peace has been restored in Rivers following months of crisis that culminated in an emergency rule declared by the President.
The governor, who was reinstated just five days ago after completing a six-month suspension from office, stressed that he and Wike have put aside their differences.
“I don’t know what you mean by if this is a paper peace. As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” he said when asked whether the truce was genuine.
Fubara also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for playing a key role in restoring calm to Rivers State. According to him, his visit to the Villa was to appreciate the President and seek his guidance on governance.
“You’re aware that the suspension was lifted at midnight on September 17, and I came in on the 19th. Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and tell him that I’m back, and I’ve resumed my responsibility as Governor of Rivers State,” Fubara explained.
He added that his discussion with the President was more of a “father-son” conversation, thanking him for his support and requesting his counsel to avoid future crises.
The visit marks Fubara’s first official appearance at the State House since his reinstatement as governor after months of political turmoil in Rivers State.
