Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially launched Enugu Air, the state’s newly established airline, hailing it as a transformative milestone and a model of effective collaboration between government and the private sector.

The airline’s maiden flight took off on Monday, marking what Governor Mbah described as a “historic moment” for the people of Enugu. Speaking at the ceremony, the governor said the launch aligns with his administration’s broader agenda of positioning Enugu as a top destination for investment, tourism, and quality living in Nigeria.

“It is an honour to stand before you today, not just as governor but as someone who believes deeply in the power of vision,” Mbah remarked. Although the launch came shortly after the second anniversary of his administration, he called it “a fitting gift to Ndi Enugu.”

Mbah emphasized that Enugu Air is more than a transportation initiative—it represents a strategic move to stimulate enterprise and unlock previously untapped economic sectors.

“We started this journey without making empty promises,” he said. “From the outset, we pledged to make Enugu a leading hub for investment, lifestyle, and tourism. What we’re witnessing today is a clear step in that direction.”

He further highlighted the airline as a symbol of what is possible through well-executed public-private partnerships.
“With Enugu Air, we are unlocking opportunities in a sector that once seemed beyond reach. Today’s inaugural flight is a shared step toward fulfilling our aspirations,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, addressed public concerns over the status of Enugu Airport. He clarified that the airport is not being sold but is undergoing a concession process to attract private investment.

“There are misconceptions suggesting we’re selling Enugu Airport. That’s not the case—we are concessioning it,” Keyamo stated. “This initiative is backed by the President, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Ministry of Aviation, and relevant committees of the National Assembly.”

The minister noted that the concession will help develop the airport’s cargo terminal, which is expected to significantly boost regional economic activity.

“Exports can now be processed directly from Enugu. This cargo terminal will create jobs and stimulate economic growth for the people,” he explained, commending Governor Mbah for proactively driving private investment without waiting on bureaucratic delays.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
