Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced full sponsorship for Skate Lagos athletes to compete at the 2025 International Skate-a-Thon in Calabar, where they will represent the state on a global stage.

This initiative highlights the governor's dedication to fostering sports excellence across all disciplines, support for non-traditional sports gaining popularity among Lagos youth and Lagos' commitment to being at the forefront of emerging sports development.

In a landmark moment for alternative sports, Skate Team Lagos departed on Tuesday for Calabar aboard an Air Peace flight, ready to compete in the International Skate-a-Thon beginning Wednesday.

Hon. Adebanji Atewogboye, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Grassroots Sports Development, played a pivotal role in securing the landmark sponsorship for Skate Lagos' participation in the International Skate-a-Thon. 

Although Skate Lagos isn’t among the 44 recognised sports associations in Lagos State, his proactive endorsement of the skateboarding team underscores the state government's progressive approach to sports development.

The state's sponsorship of Skate Lagos gains added significance following skateboarding's inclusion as an Olympic sport, creating unprecedented opportunities for local athletes to compete on the world's biggest sporting stage.
