Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has outlined an ambitious plan for his second term in office, centered on large-scale transformative projects aimed at making Anambra State a greener, more liveable, and prosperous region. The governor, who is set to seek re-election on November 8, 2025, following the completion of his first term, intends to build on his initial successes while driving forward key infrastructure and social welfare initiatives.

Key Initiatives for a Prosperous Future

In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, Soludo revealed several priority projects that will define his second term:

Healthcare Advancements: One of the governor’s most significant initiatives is the establishment of a comprehensive Oncology Centre to tackle the rising cancer burden in Nigeria. This will be paired with a telemedicine platform, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible even in remote areas, offering real-time digital consultations for medical emergencies and rural births.

Smart Cities Development: Soludo plans to develop three modern smart cities—Awka 2.0, Next Onitsha, and the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC). These cutting-edge cities are designed to reshape urban living in Nigeria by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure, efficient services, and sustainable growth.

Transportation Overhaul: As part of the Anambra Transport Masterplan, Soludo will introduce a state rail network connecting major commercial centers and undertake the dualization of key highways. The plan also includes launching a modern mass transit system, incorporating BRTs, water transport, and digital ticketing to enhance travel efficiency and promote environmental sustainability.

Tourism and Heritage Development: The governor’s vision for Anambra includes developing major tourist destinations such as Ogbunike Caves, Owerre-Ezukala Waterfalls, and Agulu Lake into world-class eco-tourism sites. These will be supported by improved infrastructure, security, and luxury accommodations. Additionally, the ongoing development of the Marriott Hotel in Awka will be central to the state’s business and leisure tourism sector.

Education and Student Support: Soludo is committed to supporting students in Anambra through the launch of a comprehensive Anambra Students’ Bursary Scheme. The program will help ease financial barriers to education and ensure that no student is left behind in their pursuit of academic success.
