A civil society group, Nigeria Integrity Watch (NIW), has claimed there's a plot to blackmail Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a statement by its convener, Dr. John Samuel Nangi, the group said some women are being housed in a Lagos hotel and trained to falsely accuse Akpabio of sexual harassment. They believe political enemies and social media influencers are behind the plan to damage his reputation.

NIW warned that the alleged plot is not just an attack on Akpabio, but a threat to Nigeria’s democracy. They called on security agencies like the DSS and police to investigate and stop any actions that could cause instability.

The group urged Nigerians and the media to stay alert and avoid spreading false information, saying it's important to protect the country’s institutions and leadership.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
