Gunmen have abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, alongside her twin children in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday morning in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area.

Confirming the development, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, said the victims were identified as Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke, John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

According to the statement, the victims were kidnapped around 7:30 a.m. while Mrs John-Paul was taking her children to school.

“Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan,” the statement said.

It added that the abductors forcefully took away the children alongside their mother during the attack.

The family explained that Mrs John-Paul recently retired after serving at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before relocating to Ibadan with her children.

Her husband had earlier relocated to the United States, while she remained in Nigeria pending plans to join him.

The family disclosed that security agencies were immediately contacted after the incident, and investigations had already commenced.

“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement added.

The family expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims and arrest those responsible for the abduction.

They also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing rescue efforts.

The incident comes amid growing security concerns in Oyo State following recent kidnappings and attacks in parts of the state.

In May 2026, more than 40 teachers and pupils were abducted during an attack in Oriire Local Government Area, while an APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, was also kidnapped in Ibadan in December 2025.

Reacting to the latest abduction, the Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the police were still verifying details of the incident.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
