A pastor identified as Emmanuel Ezeoikwe has been killed by gunmen in Zinal village, Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The attack reportedly happened in the early hours of Tuesday at the victim’s residence, throwing the community into shock.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the incident was reported to the police at about 6:30 am.

He explained that suspected gunmen invaded the village around 12:48 am and shot the pastor inside his home.

Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving the report. The victim was found unconscious and rushed to a hospital, where a doctor later confirmed him dead.

The statement also revealed that three empty AK-47 shells were recovered at the scene of the attack, suggesting the use of high-powered firearms.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Hassan, ordered a discreet investigation and directed tactical teams to track down those responsible.

Security agencies have also called on residents to remain calm and assist with useful information that could help in the investigation.

The killing adds to ongoing concerns about insecurity in parts of the country, particularly attacks targeting rural communities.
