GUNMEN KILL VILLLAGE HEAD, ABDUCT RETIRED CUSTOMS OFFICER IN OSUN
Panic Gripped Ora Community After Fatal Attack by Suspected Gunmen A village in Ora, on the Osun-Kwara boundary, was thrown into chaos on Monday evening following a brutal attack by suspected armed men. According to eyewitnesses, a retired Customs officer, Emmanuel Owolabi, was abducted, while the village head, identified as Dennis, lost his life.
The attack, which occurred around 6:45 pm on Akisa Road in Ora, Osun State, sent shockwaves through the community. Resident Titilayo, Owolabi's wife, recounted the harrowing incident, which unfolded in front of their home. She said her husband visited her at her shop around 6:30 pm, shortly before she closed for the day. After preparing dinner, she heard the first gunshot around 7 pm, thinking it was hunters in the area. However, the sporadic gunfire that followed sent her into a state of panic. "I initially thought it was hunters, but the gunshots became intense.
Later, I heard my husband's voice outside our fence," Titilayo said. She quickly went outside to investigate and found herself face-to-face with two young gunmen, who were speaking in Hausa. Despite her attempt to communicate with them in the same language, they became aggressive, demanding money and firing shots. The gunmen, who were later seen fleeing on a motorcycle with Titilayo's husband, left her for dead. A village chief, identified as Dennis, was reportedly shot dead while fleeing the scene. Sources in the community confirmed that the gunmen shot him as they escaped into the bush.
Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, assured that efforts were being made to rescue the abducted victim. He stated that police operatives and volunteers had combed the area, with more deployment made to search for Owolabi. The spokesperson also revealed that one person was shot during the incident, but the shooting occurred in Kwara State, not Osun. The police are working tirelessly to rescue the victim and bring the perpetrators to justice.
