GWARZO DONATES ₦10M TO SUPPORT PRNIGERIA YOUNG COMMUNICATORS

Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, founder of the Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, has donated ₦10 million to support the 2026 PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship.

The donation is expected to help sustain the fellowship, which provides emerging journalists and communication professionals with practical training, mentorship and exposure across its centres in Abuja, Kano and Ilorin.

Image Merchants Promotion Limited, publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential and organisers of the fellowship, disclosed the donation in an appreciation letter dated August 29, 2026.

The Managing Director of IMPR, Yushau A. Shuaib, described Gwarzo's intervention as a significant contribution to education, mentorship and youth empowerment. He said the support would strengthen the organisation's efforts to prepare young communication professionals for the demands of the industry.

Gwarzo had also previously offered a property in Lugbe, Abuja, to serve as the PRNigeria Academy and Studio. The facility is expected to provide an additional platform for training young journalists and communication professionals.

IMPR, while appreciating the offer, proposed that the property be formalised as a renewable lease donation rather than an outright transfer, in line with its governance and sustainability framework. The organisation also proposed that Gwarzo's contributions to the fellowship and academy be formally recognised under the Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation.

Responding to the appreciation, Gwarzo said his support for youth-focused initiatives was driven by his belief that investing in young people is essential to developing responsible and capable future leaders.

He stressed that financial assistance should go hand in hand with quality education, practical skills, mentorship and opportunities that enable young people to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to society.

Gwarzo said his support for the PRNigeria initiatives reflects his commitment to equipping young professionals with the knowledge and ethical values required to succeed in journalism and strategic communication.

The PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship, launched in 2024, is designed to develop emerging journalists and communication practitioners through practical training, mentorship and professional exposure.

The latest ₦10 million donation therefore adds to Gwarzo's reported support for youth-oriented programmes, including campus journalism initiatives, internship schemes, awards and other capacity-building projects.
