“HE SNATCHES POWER, WE CAMPAIGN”: SDP CRITICIZES TINUBU’S POLITICAL STYLE
A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s approach to politics is centered on seizing power rather than seeking it through the people.
Adebayo made the remarks on Friday during an interview on Trust TV, responding to questions about the recently enacted Electoral Amendment Act.
The National Assembly had approved the electronic transmission of election results, while retaining manual collation as a backup. President Tinubu signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law just 24 hours after it was passed by the legislature.
Commenting on the development, Adebayo said, “Tinubu believes that in their school of politics, you don’t go to the people to ask for power. That is a waste of time. People like us, who campaign and engage voters, are wasting our energy. He believes you grab the power, snatch it, and run with it. That’s his approach.
“This is legislative snatching of power. We are still determined to defeat Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) decisively. But this law has created another hurdle, casting doubt in the minds of voters. We now have to work harder to restore their confidence.”
