The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service recorded a revenue of ₦25,777,379,328.17 between March and May 2025, according to Comptroller Joseph Adelaja.
Adelaja, who heads the command, announced this at a press briefing held on Tuesday at the command's headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State. He noted that the amount marked a 36.67% increase compared to the ₦18,168,204,255.04 collected during the same period in 2024.
He attributed the improved revenue performance to the commitment of the command’s personnel, enforcement of customs laws, and the adoption of improved trade facilitation measures.
“The introduction of modern tools to support legitimate trade has significantly boosted compliance among excise stakeholders, reduced revenue leakages, and contributed to the Federal Government’s economic reform efforts,” Adelaja stated. He also revealed that the command's anti-smuggling operations led to the seizure of prohibited items valued at ₦335,648,500 in May 2025 alone.
Among the confiscated goods were 310 used compressors (worth ₦9.3 million) concealed in apple cartons, 1,698 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice (₦153.78 million), 130 kegs of 25-litre petrol (₦3.25 million), 21 drums (125 litres) (₦3.15 million), and 226 used tyres (₦18.08 million).
Also seized were 67 sacks and 37 bales of used clothes (₦66.84 million), 130 wraps of used clothing (₦26 million), 4 sacks of used shoes (₦3.36 million), and 68 wraps (39kg) of Cannabis Sativa (₦1.23 million).Fake pharmaceuticals confiscated included 10 cartons of Everzorol Cream (₦4.5 million), 5 cartons of Zytocin Oxytocin (₦1.8 million), 27 cartons of Phinimal Arteether Injection (₦12.96 million), 10 cartons of Areechy Zinc Sulphate (₦15 million), and 16 cartons of Biovilo (₦2.4 million). Two vehicles — a white used Mazda bus (₦5 million) and a metallic blue used Toyota Sienna (₦9 million) — were also seized.
Adelaja said the command is intensifying its efforts to protect lives and support local industries. He added that the seized Cannabis Sativa will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), while the counterfeit drugs will be transferred to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation.
He expressed appreciation to the Comptroller General of Customs, BA Adeniyi, the management team, Governor Seyi Makinde, traditional rulers in Oyo and Osun states, and security agencies for their support.
