Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has revealed that the pain of heartbreak inspired her to get a tattoo.

According to her, she had to bring in a tattoo artist from Los Angeles to her Lagos home because she didn’t want to go through the experience publicly in a tattoo parlour.

Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Katy Igwe, Savage recounted how intense the process was.

“I flew in my tattoo artist from LA to Nigeria and had it done in my room. I needed to be in a space where I was comfortable. Tattoo parlours can be very busy, and I didn’t want to go through that pain in front of everyone,” she explained.

She added that the session was bloody and even left the tattoo artist concerned.
“My tattoo artist walked in and was like, ‘What are you doing?… Is that going to come off?’ When he started, there was blood everywhere, and he kept asking what I was trying to do.

“I got that tattoo as an outlet for the pain I felt from a heartbreak. I just wanted to do something that screamed.”

Reflecting on the experience, Savage said, “The last two years were very tough. The relationship I went through was crazy. I’m so happy I’m out of it.”
