HEAVY SECURITY AT NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AS SUSPENDED SENATOR NATASHA INSISTS ON RETURN

Security has been tightened around the National Assembly complex in Abuja as reports spread that suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan intends to resume plenary on Tuesday, July 22.

The senator, who represents Kogi Central, insists her suspension is no longer valid, citing a recent Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice Binta Nyako. She claims the ruling supports her right to return to her legislative duties.

In a statement over the weekend, Natasha declared she would resume on Tuesday, sparking concerns of possible confrontation at the Senate chambers.

However, the Senate is pushing back. In a counter-statement, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, described the court ruling as an advisory opinion, not a binding order. He emphasized that the Senate had not been ordered to reverse its decision.

Despite the dispute, videos circulating on social media show a noticeable increase in security presence at the main gate of the National Assembly. Armed personnel and guards were seen stationed around the complex, likely to prevent any disruption or protest.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Senator Natasha will be allowed to enter the chamber or if the standoff will escalate further. Political observers and civil society groups are watching closely, as the matter raises fresh questions about separation of powers, due process, and legislative independence in Nigeria.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
