Heirs Energies, one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy companies, has deployed an advanced real-time digital monitoring system at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 17, marking a significant milestone in the optimisation of its upstream operations.

The state-of-the-art technology, launched on Friday during a ceremony at the company’s base in Port Harcourt, integrates sensors, data analytics, and artificial intelligence to provide continuous oversight of production activities, pipeline integrity, and asset performance. The system is expected to enhance operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve safety standards at the lease.

Heirs Energies Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ayo Oke, described the deployment as part of the company’s commitment to leveraging technology for sustainable energy production. “Real-time digital monitoring allows us to make data-driven decisions, minimise risks, and maximise output from OML 17. This investment underscores our focus on innovation and responsible stewardship of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon resources,” Oke stated.

The initiative is projected to reduce production losses by up to 15% through early detection of anomalies and predictive maintenance. It also aligns with global best practices in the oil and gas industry, where digital transformation is increasingly seen as critical to competitiveness and environmental compliance.

Representatives of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) commended Heirs Energies for the technological advancement. “This deployment demonstrates the growing capacity of indigenous operators to adopt cutting-edge solutions. It sets a positive example for the industry,” a senior NUPRC official noted.

Community leaders in the OML 17 host areas expressed optimism that the new system would lead to improved transparency and better corporate social responsibility outcomes.

Heirs Energies acquired OML 17 from Shell in 2022 and has since ramped up production while implementing various community development programmes. The company pledged to continue investing in technology and local talent to sustain long-term growth in Nigeria’s energy sector.

The deployment at OML 17 is expected to serve as a blueprint for similar digital initiatives across other assets operated by the company and its peers in the upstream sector.
