HELP US! AKWA IBOM COMMUNITY BEGS GOVERNMENT OVER CULTIST THREATS
Residents of Ifa Ikot Akpan village in Etoi Clan, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, have raised an alarm over threats from suspected cultists and are urging the state government and Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, to act swiftly to protect the community.
The threats are believed to come from members of the KKK cult group, who reportedly posted a letter on the door of the village council hall, warning of impending violence in retaliation for what they described as the continued harassment of their members by security agencies.
In the letter, the group warned:
"We, the members of the KKK cult confraternity, write to caution the Ifa Ikot Akpan Village Council against the ongoing harassment of our members through the use of security operatives.
Should anything happen to any of our members in the near future, the following individuals will be held responsible for allegedly tipping off law enforcement:
– Mr. Abasiama Etim Eyo (Youth Chairman)
– Mr. Itoro Offiong Essien
– Mr. Itoro Etim Ben
– Mr. Edidiong Effiong Ubit (Village Council Chairman)
– Mr. Victor Edet Asuquo (Village Council Secretary)Let it be known that the leader of our confraternity hails from Ifa, and we will not stand by while our members are targeted. This is a warning."
In response, the village head, Eteidung Ebong, issued a public appeal on Saturday, calling on Governor Umo Eno and the Commissioner of Police to step in before the situation escalates. He urged law enforcement to intensify patrols and investigations into cult-related activities in the area.
"We are pleading with the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Police Commissioner to intervene and protect us from the growing threat posed by cultists,” the village leader said.
During an emergency meeting and press briefing, Eteidung Ebong named two individuals believed to be responsible for recent disturbances and emphasized the seriousness of the threat.
“We cannot stand idly by while our peace is destroyed. This is not a mere threat—it is a real danger. That’s why we have informed the authorities,” he stated.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, confirmed awareness of the situation and requested contact details of the village council members, some of whom are reportedly in hiding. She assured that the police would take prompt action to prevent any violence.
