HOTEL INVESTOR SEEKS BETTER FINANCING FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
A hotel investor has called for improved access to financing for construction projects as rising development costs continue to affect the growth of Nigeria’s hospitality sector.
The investor said high interest rates, rising costs of building materials, and limited access to long-term funding have made it difficult for developers to complete hotel projects efficiently.
The hospitality industry requires significant upfront investment, with developers often needing several years to recover construction and development costs.
Industry stakeholders said affordable and long-term financing would help investors develop new hotels, expand existing facilities, and improve the quality of hospitality infrastructure across the country.
They noted that stronger financing options could also encourage investment in underserved locations and support the development of tourism-related businesses.
Analysts said Nigeria’s growing population, business travel, tourism, and demand for accommodation present opportunities for the hospitality sector.
However, they identified high borrowing costs, foreign exchange pressures, inadequate infrastructure, and rising operational expenses as major challenges facing hotel investors.
The investor urged financial institutions to develop funding products specifically designed for hospitality projects, including longer repayment periods and more flexible financing structures.
Stakeholders also called for stronger collaboration between government agencies, banks, investors, and development finance institutions to unlock more funding for the sector.
Experts said increased investment in hotels could create jobs, support local suppliers, and generate additional economic activity across construction, transportation, food services, and tourism.
They stressed that improving access to finance would be essential to ensuring that viable hotel projects are completed and contribute to Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism development.
The investor said a stronger financing environment would enable developers to pursue more projects and support the long-term growth of Nigeria’s hospitality industry.
