HOUSING MINISTER SETS UP COMMITTEE TO DRIVE SECTOR REFORMS

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development has inaugurated a committee tasked with developing measures to transform Nigeria’s housing sector and address some of the major challenges affecting access to decent and affordable accommodation across the country.

The committee is expected to examine critical issues within the housing sector and recommend practical measures that can improve housing delivery. Its assignment is also expected to cover areas such as housing affordability, access to finance, land administration, construction costs and other factors that have continued to make home ownership difficult for many Nigerians.

The minister said the committee would play an important role in supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to create a more efficient and inclusive housing system. The administration has been seeking greater collaboration between government institutions, private developers, financial institutions and other stakeholders to increase housing supply and reduce the housing deficit.

The committee is also expected to explore ways of encouraging private-sector investment and improving the conditions for housing development. Greater access to mortgage financing, innovative construction methods and improved infrastructure could help make housing projects more viable while providing more options for low- and middle-income Nigerians.

The inauguration marks another step in the government’s efforts to reform the housing sector and improve the delivery of residential infrastructure. The committee is expected to work with relevant stakeholders and provide recommendations that can support sustainable housing development and make decent accommodation more accessible to Nigerians.
