Promise Emmanuel, popularly known as Kogi Rebel, has questioned the benefits of court marriage for men, particularly when they earn more or own more assets than their partners.

Emmanuel, the Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Cybercrime, raised the question in a Facebook post.

He asked why a man would choose a court wedding when marrying a woman who is less financially established, and what advantages the arrangement offers him.

“What is the actual benefit of a Court Wedding to a man?” he wrote.

The governor’s aide also questioned the argument that men enter court marriages to protect their wives’ and children’s inheritance.

He suggested that a man seeking to leave his property to his family could write a will instead.

His post focused on the financial considerations surrounding marriage and inheritance. However, it presented his personal views without explaining the broader legal rights and responsibilities associated with marriage or how they differ from those covered by a will.
