Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has voiced his desire for improved governance in Nigeria and across the African continent.

The award-winning artist shared his thoughts during the premiere of his documentary, “Wizkid: Long Live Lagos,” at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday.

Highlighting governance as a key challenge facing the continent, Wizkid expressed hope that African nations will eventually get it right. He also encouraged African creatives to take control of their narratives and share their journeys through their art.

“I hope that every artist from Africa gets to tell their story like this,” he said. “I’m not the only one who came from that hustle—we all did. Everyone deserves the chance to tell their story in their own way.”

Wizkid went on to express optimism for the growth of African culture globally, saying, “I always wish for more success for the whole culture—from music to film to sports. And I wish for better government.”

Describing himself as a hopeful person, the Essence singer concluded: “I’m just a very positive human being regardless of anything. I wish the best for everyone making amazing music and amazing art from Africa.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
