I HELPED TINUBU BECOME PRESIDENT, BUT HE HAS DERAILED – EL-RUFAI

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has openly declared that he played a key role in making Bola Ahmed Tinubu president but believes the administration has now derailed from its original purpose.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai fired back at critics who say he has no moral right to challenge Tinubu’s leadership because of his past support.

“Everyone knows I was one of the founding fathers of APC and that I made contributions to bring Asiwaju to the presidency,” he said. “But if his government has derailed and is not doing what we thought it would do for Nigerians, should I keep quiet? Even if it were my own son as president, I would still speak up if things were wrong.”

El-Rufai stressed that the ultimate goal of government is to improve the lives of the people, not to protect political loyalties. He argued that democracy thrives on accountability and free expression, warning against a culture where leaders are seen as “above criticism” simply because of personal ties or past support.

He concluded by insisting that Nigerians must never shy away from holding leaders accountable:
“The purpose of government is to get things done for the people. If a leader fails, we must say so. That is not disloyalty — that is responsibility.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
