Air Peace co-pilot, David Bernard, has shared his account of the recent incident involving the airline at the Port Harcourt airport in Rivers State.

In an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Bernard explained that he noticed the captain’s landing approach was not stable and advised him accordingly, but his concerns were ignored.

He said the captain failed to follow the standard landing system procedure.

“The incident occurred on July 13, 2025. I was the monitoring officer that day. The weather and visibility were good.

“Everything was smooth until we got to 500 feet, when the captain disconnected the autopilot and switched to manual for the approach.

“At that point, he became too high on the approach. I cautioned him, saying, ‘Commander, you are high for this approach, we should initiate a go-around,’ but he did not heed my advice.

“He continued the approach, and we crossed the runway threshold at about 200 feet, landing just after the midpoint of the runway.

“He was also reluctant to deploy the reverse thrust, so I had to manually engage it and bring the aircraft to a stop,” Bernard explained.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
