ASABA — A 27-year-old man identified as Obakpororo has confessed to killing the mother of his two sons while under the influence of tramadol and cannabis. The incident, which occurred in Sapele between June 26 and 27, 2025, followed a heated argument between the suspect and the victim, Excellence.

Paraded at the Delta State Police Command headquarters in Asaba, Obakpororo admitted to taking 200mg of tramadol and smoking a substance known as "loud" — a high-grade strain of cannabis — before the fatal attack.

According to the suspect, the confrontation began when he discovered that the victim was allegedly involved in transactional sex, locally referred to as "hook-up." He claimed that during the altercation, the victim brandished a knife, prompting him to pick up a hammer.

“She brought some clothes and a bottle of ‘Vegas’ to my house. We argued, and she pulled out a knife. I took a hammer in response,” he recounted. “I managed to take the knife from her and struck her on the head three times.”

Obakpororo said he did not intend to kill her but panicked after realizing she had died. He attempted to take his own life by jumping from a storey building but survived.

The suspect, who also admitted to being involved in internet fraud and farming, used the occasion to warn young people about the dangers of drug abuse.

Delta State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the suspect initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by the authorities.
