I WAS STABBED, OBESERE LOST ₦95M IN CASH AND JEWELLERY — SINGER’S AIDE RECOUNTS BRUTAL ATTACK IN ONDO
Ayonla Althentic, the media aide to Fuji legend Abass Akande Obesere, has revealed that the singer lost an estimated ₦95 million in cash and luxury jewellery after a violent attack by armed thugs in Ondo State.
The incident occurred on November 21 in Okitipupa, shortly after Obesere concluded a performance at a burial ceremony. In a detailed statement shared on Facebook, Althentic described the chaos that unfolded as a “calculated and coordinated operation.”
According to him, the attackers made away with a bag containing ₦25 million, which included proceeds from a previous show and the event of the day. In addition to the cash, they also forcibly removed Obesere’s ₦45 million gold necklace and his ₦25 million gold wristwatch.
He narrated how the assailants blended into the crowd before executing their attack.
“Around 6 p.m., I noticed unfamiliar faces. They didn’t look like members of the bereaved family but rather street boys. Alhaji Obesere even hailed them as they danced, not knowing they had a mission,”
Althentic wrote.
The situation turned violent as the singer and his team began leaving the venue.
“A large group of hoodlums rushed at us, blocked our way, and demanded the money bag. Others surrounded Alhaji and demanded more money. Even after he gave them some, they insisted on more and became aggressive,”
he added.
During the struggle, the attackers snatched Obesere’s jewellery and descended on his aide with planks and fists. Althentic said he resisted attempts to seize the cash but sustained serious injuries.
“I was beaten, stabbed, and my left shoulder was dislocated. I lost consciousness after a heavy hit to my head. When I regained myself, the bag was gone.”
He clarified that the missing cash included ₦20 million from an earlier show and about ₦5 million made on stage that afternoon. Obesere had also recently returned from a European tour, which contributed to the high-value items he carried.
The singer’s camp has described the experience as traumatic and has called for improved security around major events in the region.
