ICAN PROMISES REFORM AGENDA AS 62ND PRESIDENT TAKES OFFICE
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has pledged renewed commitment to innovation, professional excellence, and institutional reform as it inaugurated its 62nd president.
The new president was formally installed during the institute’s induction and investiture ceremony, where senior members of the accounting profession, policymakers, and industry stakeholders gathered to mark the leadership transition.
In his inaugural address, the ICAN president emphasized the need to strengthen the institute’s relevance in a rapidly evolving financial and business environment. He noted that technological disruption, digital finance, and global reporting standards are reshaping the accounting profession, requiring continuous adaptation and capacity building.
He outlined key priorities for his tenure, including expanding digital transformation within ICAN’s operations, improving professional training, and enhancing ethical standards among members. The leadership also promised to deepen engagement with regulatory bodies and the private sector to ensure that accountants remain central to economic development.
ICAN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national economic growth through improved financial reporting, transparency, and accountability. The institute stressed that its members play a critical role in both public and private sector governance.
Stakeholders at the event commended the institute’s long-standing contribution to professional development in Nigeria, describing ICAN as a key pillar in the country’s financial ecosystem. They also called for stronger collaboration between professional bodies and government institutions to improve economic management.
Analysts say the accounting profession is undergoing significant transformation globally, driven by automation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making. They believe ICAN’s focus on innovation will help its members remain competitive in the evolving global economy.
As the new leadership begins its tenure, expectations are high that ICAN will further modernize its systems while maintaining its reputation for integrity and professional standards.
