ICPC ACCUSES EL-RUFAI OF BREACHING COURT-APPROVED MEDICAL VISIT, ARRESTS PERSONAL DOCTOR

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has accused former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of violating the conditions of a court-approved medical visit while in its custody, leading to the arrest of his personal physician.

The commission alleged that the hospital visit was misused for activities outside the approved medical purpose, including interactions with political associates. ICPC spokesperson John Odey said Professor Bello Abubakar, El-Rufai’s personal doctor, made false statements regarding the consultation and has been taken into custody.

According to the ICPC, no prior request for the medical consultation was properly made, and El-Rufai reportedly stated he had no immediate medical complaint during the visit. The commission described the development as a clear breach of the court’s order.

The arrest has sparked reactions from political stakeholders, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) criticising the ICPC and alleging that El-Rufai’s wife was assaulted during the incident. The ADC described the actions as political persecution.

El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody as investigations continue into allegations of corruption and abuse of office during his tenure as governor.
